I really loved the descriptions Golden used in Memoirs, but I'll agree with
those of you who didn't like the ending. It was just too neat for me . . .
like a great story that's suddenly tied up neatly by a fairy godmother
without any of the characters having to work things out for themselves. At
first, you could almost believe in the story . . . towards the end though,
it seemed just a little to transparent for me. : P Ah well . . . the book
was beautiful . . . : ) I loved the descriptions of the clothes and the
country. Incidentally, I remember reading something about a real geisha
being slightly upset with Golden's version of a geisha's life. Does anyone
know more about this?
