I did NOT like the Tepper "Beauty", but I did like the one by the same name by
Susan Wilson. Here's what amazon says about it:

The beloved story of Beauty and the Beast is transported to present-day New
England in Beauty, Susan Wilson's first novel. Heroine Alix Miller is the last
in her family of a long line of painters. Lee Crompton, the Beast, is the last
in his family, each generation of which has had a portrait painted by a
Miller. Alix is summoned to Lee's home for a sitting, but is surprised not to
meet her subject on arrival. While waiting, she goes for a walk, gets caught
in a blizzard and is brought to shelter by a hideous man, setting the stage
for this modern-day fairy tale.

There was a TV movie made from this book, which I saw first, then read the
book, which was just as good, if not better. The handling of some details was
poorly reseahced, but all in all, if you like the B & B legend, you've GOT to
read this!
