Probably these strategies for adopting novelty evolved in an era
which was much less dynamic than our own. For most of human (and
animal) history, the world in which you were born was much the same
as the world in which you died. There were exceptions, of course,
with changes in weather patterns, or changes due to migration. But
I imagine that in most cases there really wasn't much "novelty" to
be had once you got past your first couple of decades.
