How does one calculate the "real" rate of interest in 1998? (Could you
tell me what that rate is, by the way? I certainly can't.) How does
one compare that "real" rate in 1998 to the "real" rate in 1918? In
1818? In 1618?

I know that many people have produced extremely interesting theses
describing these rates over the centuries. I'm just not sure I believe
