I've heard a number of people say that people who live to year X will
be immortal, but I haven't yet heard people claim we've reached that
year.

Sort of like waiting for a train to arrive without looking to see
whether you're sitting on the track it's arriving on.
People who are complacent about the Singularity have lots of time to
post. I know some people who are quite worried about whether they will
survive the Singularity. They always seem too busy to engage in the
kinds of discussions you are likely to read.
