McKinley: tam lin

i think some people on this list have mentioned pamela dean's novel _tam
lin_ before - i finally got around to reading it, and now i have to write a
paper on it, but i still have some unanswered questions:

why did peg lie about the bunk beds - what was that mystery about?
who was peg powell in general?(she seems to be named after the child-eating
british faerie "peg powler," but she didn't seem that bad in the book too
me...) was she of the faerie court as well?

who is "Pyewacket"? i know it's the cat's name(according to thomas), but
since this book abounds with literary allusions, i'm assuming there's some
other meaning?

was thomas ever medeous' lover, as he was in the original ballad?

also, i'm not sure exactly what i'm going to say in my paper yet, so any
insights at all into the book in general would be apppreciated!

thanks,
cameron
