besides beauty and deerskin, i don't think aerin and harry are exactly lacking in fortitude - i wouldn't call any of robin's lead characters weak(certainly not cecily or marian, either). robin dedicated _beauty_ to her mother, so maybe some of her mother's personality influenced beauty's character, but i think - at least i've "heard" terri windling say - that robin's own strength, especially her understanding of honor, infuses that of her characters as well.
