13. Torquemada 197583, 1:190 [bk. 2, chap. 34], 1:198 [bk. 2, chap. 36]. The battle for Azcapotzalco is usually recorded as occurring in 1428 (Berlin and Barlow 1980:55; Chimalpahin 1965:93 [relación 3]; Dibble 1981:10), but other dates are also recorded: 1429 (Chimalpahin 1965:192 [relación 7]) and 3 Tochtli, which would be 1430 (Anales de Cuauhtitlan 1975:48). |

20. The specific sequence of subsequent conquests varies in the historical sources, but the evidence indicates a planned and coherent campaign involving the subjection of Tepanec cities to consolidate the power of the Triple Alliance (Anales de Cuauhtitlan 1975:48; Chimalpahin 1965:193; Ixtlilxóchitl 197577, 2:80 [chap. 31]; Torquemada 197583, 1:202203 [bk. 2, chaps. 3940]). Ixtlilxochitl goes further and claims additional towns for this campaignTenanyocan, Tepanohuayan, Toltitlan, Cuauhtitlan, and Xaltocanbut these appear to belong to the later expansion into the north. Other sources listing conquests but no sequences indicate the conquest of Atlacuihuayan, Teocalhueyacan, and Mixcoac (Barlow 1949b:121; Clark 1938, 1:30; Leyenda de los Soles 1975:128; Mendieta 1971:150; Mengin 1952:449; Paso y Troncoso 193942, 10:118). |
