the campaign that Malinaltepec was conquered, along with Citlaltepec, Tlachinollan, Teochiyauhtzinco, and Tlalcozauhtitlan. 58
The next conquests were probably in the same campaign season (151112). Tlachquiauhco was conquered, and 12,210 captives were taken to be sacrificed, leaving no one in the town (see map 19). The Yopitzincas had plotted to kill the Aztecs garrisoned at Tlacotepec by treachery, but this plan was discovered, and the Aztec army attacked and conquered them, taking 200 captives. Nopallan was conquered as well, 140 men being taken captive, but many Aztecs died, including twenty important men.59 Chichihualtatacallan, Quimichtepec,60 and the province of Tototepec were also conquered, as were Chilquiyauhco and Alotepec.61 The conquest of Chilquiyauhco, although undertaken during the same campaign season, was doubtless a separate and independent enterprise62 (see map 20).
Concurrent with the third thrust into the Huaxyacac area, the Aztecs fought another flower war, in which they took 140 captives. The fighting focused on Tlaxcallan first, then on Huexotzinco, and finally on Atlixco.63 This apparent effort to divide the three allies and subdue them individually did not succeed immediately, but it exacerbated existing tensions.
Still, the multiple simultaneous engagements strained Aztec resources, leaving the empire vulnerable in other areas. So when the people of Cuetlachtlan also maltreated the Aztecs as an indication of rebellion, the Aztecswho were occupied with both the xochiyaoyotl and the campaign in Huaxyacacdid nothing about it.
After the third Huaxyacac campaign (probably in 151415), the Aztecs entered Chichimec territory by way of the Huaxtec region. There they conquered Quetzalapan and took 1,332 captives while losing 95 Aztecs.64 Although Quetzalapan is rather far to the south for a campaign entered from the area indicated, numerous conquests undertaken during the reign of Moteuczomah Xocoyotl stretch between that city and the Huaxtec region. Thus, most of these otherwise unascribed Huaxtec and coastal region towns were probably conquered at this time: Mollanco (Ollan), Tlachinolticpac, Huexolotlan, Cuextlan, Micquetian, Atlan, Pantepec, Tetzapotitlan, Toztepec, Cuauhtochco, Cuezcomatl-Iyacac, Atzaccan, Izhuatlan, Tecpanayacac, 65 and razed Cihuapohualoyan. Two towns in the vicinity of Huaxyacac were also conquered, though possibly in independent actions: Macuiloctlan66 and Cuezcomaixtlahuacan, which was not destroyed, as its inhabitants fled to a fortified stronghold.67
