Discounting the suggestion that Lord Techotlallah of Ixtlapalapan employed witches to kill him, 33 there is no good evidence to indicate who might have killed Tizoc. But the apparent lack of reaction among the noble class, the exalted position of the king, which would certainly deter the commoners, the daily erosion of the position of the nobility, and the specific undermining of Ahuitzotl's position as successor indicate that Tizoc was eliminated by the nobility, and the noble who benefited most was Ahuitzotl.
