re: Cheryl's response to time periods

In my copy of Deerskin (which is the Ace Fantasy paperback), the Aerin reference is on page 215. If you have a different copy, it's at the very end of chapter 26, when Ossin is talking about the Moonwoman and Trivelda. After I first read the book, I knew there was an Aerin reference somewhere, but couldn't find it, so I reread the entire novel looking for it. :) I agree, if there is a real time period Deerskin parallels, it certainly feels 17th or 18th century (probably it's those wigs of Trivelda's). I really like your idea of one of Aerin's descendants going off and founding a kingdom somewhere else--that would explain a lot (at least to me when I'm in the midst of rereading it and those nagging questions start coming). And who's to say Aerin isn't some sort of worldwide legend, somewhat akin to Alexander the Great? :)
